When we chose the leather for our straps, we went through every grade on the market. The differences aren't subtle, they determine how a strap looks, feels, and ages over years of wear. Here's exactly what sets them apart.
What Is Leather Grade, and Why Does It Matter?
Leather is graded by which part of the hide it comes from and how it's processed. The grade determines everything: strength, breathability, how it ages, and whether it develops a patina or just falls apart. Most brands don't tell you which grade they use. We do.

The Three Grades, Explained
Full-Grain Leather, The Ultimate Grade
Full-grain uses the strongest part of the hide, directly below the hair, completely un-sanded. It retains the natural pores and unique markings of the leather, breathes exceptionally well, and develops a custom patina with every day of wear. No two pieces age the same way.
Top-Grain Leather, The Luxury Standard
Top-grain takes the premium top layer and sands down surface blemishes for a uniform, smooth texture. Slightly thinner and more flexible than full-grain, it's exceptionally comfortable from day one while maintaining impressive durability over time.
"Genuine Leather", Know What You're Buying
Despite the name, genuine leather is the lowest tier, made from leftover scraps after the top layers are removed. These weak fibers are glued together, coated with plastic, and stamped with a fake grain. It has minimal strength, no breathability, and will crack or peel rapidly with regular use.
